Hackers

My credit card was hacked by this company somehow. It worries me they're associated with Amazon. If you don't recognize a charge from them, have it deleted immediately.

reactiviting account

First, I don't know if you realize this but you don't make reactivating accounts easy. I know when a person charges it to the charge card you are told to wait so a person won't end up with multiple charges. However, when I tried to reactivate it kept making me wait until I restarted my computer. I would like to try again but I don't want to be charged twice. I need to know that my charge didn't go through so I can try again.

Don't use a Wells Fargo Credit Card. When I complained to Wells Fargo what this Fraudulent Newspaper Service did to me; they refused to hear my complaint.

Wells Fargo is obviously a close personal friend of this Scam outfit, as well. I explained to Wells Fargo that I was not even in the United States, and I did not ever open my Computer. I discovered that I was being charged $300 for a transaction that I was taken for at the tune of $79 or some such. I really know nothing about it.

Yet, Wells Fargo and this Newspapers.com are in it together. I told Wells Fargo that I would much rather go-blind than to have to read a Washington Post Newspaper. This cheap, phony Fraudulent outfit, along with Wells Fargo, had me signed-up for some kind of deal to receive the Washington Post on-line.

After this fiasco, I am closing all Accounts that I had with Wells Fargo. My Credit Card Account has long-time been cancelled.

Signed up for Newspaperarchive.com for genealogical purposes. I didn't find exactly what I was looking for so I emailed customer service to ask to have my membership cancelled. They responded saying it was no problem and that my account was cancelled. However, a week later I had a charge on my card from them for $67. I emailed again asking why and for a refund. They claimed there were TWO accounts under my email with the same credit card number... I never set up two accounts. They said the would refund my anyways. I did get a refund for $67. Immediately after the refund however, was another charge from the for another $67. So I never really got my money back. When I contact them about this, they never responded. Ended up cutting my loses and cancelled my card so they cannot make any further charges.

Took my money, did not supply information

First, I am furious because this website automatically renewed my subscription without a notification. At first I was billed from Iowa, with a phone number on the statement. Now my billing is coming from GB, no phone number. Plus I'm being charged an overseas transaction fee on top of this bogus subscription. Worse, when I sign in, the only newspaper "articles" that come up refer to my own name, not ancestors I am researching! I intend to inform the FCC, Iowa attorney general, and any other consumer advocacy program to stop these people. All the people who have been bamboozled by this website should do the same.

BEWARE: Hoodwinked...by Newspaper Archive (without the s)

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Go with the another site that is reputable and doesn't mask by leaving the "s" off the name. Be aware of the charges after a short "free" period. If you check the little box, you pay even if you didn't realize what you are getting into. You will be charged! I never used the site and was charged $49 three times before I caught it on my credit account. Lesson learned. :( I spoke with a supervisor by phone and received the scripted version of how I got myself into this mess...I had trouble following him and got lost in "you clicked this and then click ed that...etc". No wonder so many have the same complaint. The setup is by design to do just what they have accomplished in doing and that is deception to the consumer for the all important $.

I have much of the same complaint.

I willingly paid for a subscription, I believe it was like $100 for a year. Then, after like three months, virtually every newspaper clipping I tried to view was prohibited unless I agreed to pay another $140 to "Upgrade."

AND I couldn't cancel my subscription for a refund.

Additionally I had to manually go in and delete my credit card information so I won't be charged in future years.

SCAM! BAD BAD business practices have ruined what otherwise could be a fantastic service.

Sloppy indexing

I use Newspaper Archive almost daily in my work. Recently i have noticed that every newspaper "hit" i get has the date of the 9th of the month on the hit line, no matter what the date on the newspaper might be. The year is right, and the month, too. but never the date. This slows me down a lot as i am frequently focusing on a narrow time frame. I have to click on every hit to ascertain the actual date. This service is worth every penny I pay for it, as I formerly had to order microfilm from a library 900 miles away. But this sloppy indexing is driving me nuts. It used to be accurate, perhaps a tech glitch. I've complained directly to them.

Nope! They still have the sloppy indexing.

It's like the site is ran by monkeys high on *** and just party away in Morocco!

Considering the strong push to legalize pot everywhere who knows.

It's going to get a lot worse before it gets better. Imagine if the whole nation is ran by Newspaper Archives.com standards.

Hint.

We wouldn't have one. It will either fall apart infrastructure wise with mass power outages/civil unrest everywhere and/or get invaded by foreign enemies who see the USA as a weak spot.

They charged me anyway

NewspaperArchive.com They are definitely not suitable to trust. I do know that they do NOT respond to their "customer service" email.

I canceled my 1 week free trial before the end date, as I quickly discovered they offered NOTHING useful for my Genealogy research. I got a couple of email saying they were trying to charge my card and couldn't. I responded to each of those email, and they stopped (I even got a confirmation that my account's free trial was cancelled). Then I find a charge on my card today from them.

It's weird because they are charging me for an amount that is not what their site actually costs. I have tried several times via email, and phone to reach someone. They are not answering either contact method. I have disputed the charges with the credit card company and closed the card.

Companies like NewspaperArchive.com are why I will only buy online with a prepaid card.

I then started to look up some reviews on them (pissed consumer popped up all over the google search). I found that just recently, it seems there have been several similar complaints logged against them.

I am adding mine to that list.

My case is going to be solved to my satisfaction, from either NewspaperArchive or my card's company. I am leaving this review to make sure others know what they are getting into.

I had good customer service

After calling - I got a human immediately - I found out that the newspaper I was most interested in was not in the archive - except for some early years - 1908-****. Thus I was not getting hits on my search. The attendant (George) was courteous and even went to another part of the call center to get an answer on a billing question for me. I am giving a good rating based on customer service...and I am going to ride out the free period checking for genealogy info ...(why in the world does this review have to be 100 words?) - word economy is a virtue I try to adhere to, and I am only up to 101

Too hard to get simple monthly subscription

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I wanted to use Newspapers.com, and signed up for the 1 week trial. I saw it would charge me $99 at the end of the trial, and could not figure out how to change it to a monthly term! I knew I could remember to cancel but I got very sick 6 days later, and missed the time frame for cancelling the trial. I go in there now, and there is no way to cancel the subscription until a year from now! That seems unlawful to me somehow. This must break some rule somewhere??

I subscribed in October 2014 and renewed it this past October. Now I find they have a new premium service which I have to pay extra for to access the newspapers I've been able to access all along. Every newspaper I click on directs me to a page that says I need to pay for premium access. I've asked for eight months of my money back if they can't give me the access I paid for, but who knows if I'll get it.

Problem cancelling with Newspaper Archives?

Call your credit card company and dispute the charge. They will take it off your bill and give the company a chance to tell their side. I doubt the crooks have the time or personnel to respond. That's usually how it goes when the crooks try to cheat the customers. The only credit card company I've had trouble with helping me to dispute a charge is Chase. And they finally helped when I kept bugging them. AMX is absolutely the best with disputing charges! Enter at least 100 words. Enter at least 100 words. Enter at least 100 words. Trying to cancel! Newpaperarchives.com

I have been trying to cancel my subscription for three months. I joined at the same time I joined Ancestry.com. I realized in the first days of the trial period that they have NO newspaper information regarding my own ancestry. I kept the subscription for a few months and then realized they're charging $29.95 a month! I have been calling ever since. I always hear a recording to wait and then I am disconnected within a minute. It is really disheartening. I would like to see my money returned, but at this point I just want a cancellation.

Newspapers not available

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Have subscribed 3 months to this site. The first time there was no problem. Cancelled after finding what I wanted and all went as it should. Subscribed again in January 2015 to get some articles I skipped and all newspapers I had gathered from before were unavailable with a date of February 14, 2015 as a return date. After a second month of billing, as I did not CALL only emailed a cancellation. These same newspapers still unavailable now with a return date of March 5, 2015. Oddly, it's 90% of the papers I searched previously and only the years I searched in. I would not waste anymore money on this company. It's unusual that you will find your family here, unless they live in a small town and that town is covered in their list. If you do subscribe and find mention of family...get ALL articles you want immediately. Cancel and do not subscribe again. The preponderance of complaints is that this site is interested in money, not service. Get what you pay for and quit while your ahead.
